2012 saw the finish of years of hard work to make Oxford’s roads bike friendly. Now there are miles of bike paths for the road bike enthusiast as well as a number of mountain bike trails, all within a stones throw from town.
Oxford has a number of road routes and a Pathways Commission that is dedicated to keeping the road safer for cyclists. To find out more about the Pathways Commission and see maps of different routes, please view the Lafayette Oxford University Pathways Website.
Mountain Bike Trails
Oxford has two sets of mountain bike trails close by:
South Campus Rail Trail
Formerly known as the Whirpool Trails or Thacker Mountain Rail Trail, the South Campus Rail Trail is a network of single tracks trails adjacent to the Ole Miss campus and easy cycling distance from downtown Oxford. Access to the trails is from the rail bed at the end of Coliseum Dr./Front St.
Maps and more information can be found at the South Campus Rail Trail on the Ole Miss Campus Recreation website.
Clear Creek Trail
The Clear Creek Trail is a 30 minute drive from Oxford located near Clear Creek Landing by Sardis Lake. Selected as the best trail in Mississippi by Mountain Bike Magazine and host to the Clear Creek Challenge XC Race in September the trail can be ridden as a complete 13 mile loop, a smaller 3 mile beginner loop or an 8 mile beginner + intermediate loop.
